Dean's Challenge

To JBA Alums, Parents, Faculty – past and present:

In fifteen years of working with the Joseph Baldwin Academy, I have watched the program grow, and – more importantly – I have watched its students grow. I hear back from students I last saw when they were barely into their teens, who are now launched on careers they find fulfilling and rewarding, and they call, write or email just to say what JBA did for them.

Sometimes it’s a kid  who was having trouble with school cliques, and three weeks at JBA taught her “it’s not me!” and sent her home with a new self-confidence. Sometimes it’s a youngster who has never before been in a place where it’s cool to be smart, or where you don’t have to hide your enthusiasm for learning and understanding. Life-transitions seem to spark these communications – I’ve had letters written the night before a high school or college graduation, before departure for graduate school or on a junior year abroad, even one on the occasion of ordination to the ministry.

I’ve sent my own children through JBA, and the experience enriched their high school and college careers, setting them on a path of lifetime learning (just in case you’re wondering, faculty kids pay full price!). Now that I have the honor to serve as Dean, and while I do not presently have an age-eligible child to send to the Academy, I have decided that I want to go on making this life-changing adventure available to some bright young person. So I have made arrangements with the Advancement Office at Truman State University to have a $100 per month payroll deduction automatically sent to the Joseph Baldwin Academy Opportunities Fund. It’s a modest amount, but over the course of a year, it equates to the tuition for one student to attend the academy.

I’m calling you out. Join me in making a contribution that will yield manifold dividends over decades to come, that will transform the futures of so many bright young folks. We have been touched by the Academy, and it’s our privilege to pay it forward. Use the instructions below to make a one-time donation, or call (800) 452-6678 or (660) 785-4133 to talk about an automatic gift-plan or bequest.

Best,

Dr. Adam Brooke Davis
Dean of the Joseph Baldwin Academy
